Moving UP Transition to High School Parent and Carer Information Session

Getting ready for change… A  five week program to support Year 6 students with the social and emotional aspects of transitioning to high school – developed and delivered by the St Dominic’s School Social Worker Justine O’Malley.

The ‘Moving Up: High School Here We Come’ workshop has lots of practical information, tips and ideas including:

  • Self Awareness: Getting to know YOU!
  • Navigating change and overcoming challenges – flip the script!
  • Developing a growth mindset – the power of ‘YET’
  • Coping with stress – Stress buster ideas
  • Friendship skills – New people to meet and new friends to make
  • Organisation and time management – What will your day look like?
  • Building support networks – Your transition team
  • Goal setting – Hopes for high school

All parents and carers of Year 6 student’s are encouraged to join Mrs O’Malley and Miss Wheatley over a morning coffee, to find out what content is covered in this program and how it can be reinforced at home.

Children may arrive at school with you and wait in the Year 6 classroom.

*Note due to an increased use of vaping with young people across Australian high schools an additional workshop that developmentally appropriately addresses the issue and impact of vaping will also be included this year in the transition program.
