The Year 6’s were lucky enough to recently host Beau Wardman, the Senior Coach of the WAFL’s Subiaco Lions Football Club.
Beau spoke to the students about leadership and a few of the attributes that he tries to instill in his colleagues and players. He spoke to us for 40 minutes and speaking for myself, it was great to hear some of the ideas and life skills that Beau had to share.
Some key takeaways from the incursion were:
- Do what is right for no other reason than it is the right thing to do.
- Actions reflect more than what you say.
- Anyone can show leadership skills and strong leadership, not just “leaders”.
Leading by example, showing that you care about others in a genuine way and have a willingness to listen are characteristics of leadership that Beau tries to live by each day.
Beau also spoke about resilience and not being defined by the setbacks but by how you respond to them (it is never as bad as what it seems), humility, sacrifice and commitment, and courage.
We thank Beau sincerely for giving of his time today to speak with our Year 6’s.
