2024 Year 6 End of Year Events/ Year 6 Support for P&F Disco

As we draw closer to the end of the 2024 school year, there are several events planned to celebrate our Year 6’s time here at St Dominic’s.  Although it will be sad to see them leave us in a few weeks, we are looking forward to celebrating the many wonderful memories of their time here at St Dominic’s.

Below is an outline of the celebrations planned.

Tuesday 3rd December

  • Whole school outing (details to be shared shortly)

Wednesday 4th December

  • 8:50am – Final Year 6 Whole School Assembly in the Hall
  • 9:45am – Year 6 Students vs Teachers Handball Game on the Oval

Friday 6th December

  • 9:00am – Whole School Thanksgiving/ Graduation Mass and Awards Ceremony at St Dominic’s Church
  • 10:40am – Student Guard of Honour Procession and Final Farewell on the Oval
  • 11:00am – Graduation Morning Tea in the Hall (see message below for further details)
  • 11:30am – Students return to class with Kasey or head off with families to Bounce (see message below for further details) * Please note that as this is an optional parent run outing not organised by the school, families choosing to attend will need to sign their child out of the school following our normal school based procedures.

Below is a message from Jaye Kingwell, containing further details regarding optional parent-led events organised for our graduates plus details about the Year 6 organised P&F Discos.  Questions regarding the below aspects of the student’s final day should be directed to them.

2024 Optional Parent-led Graduation Activities/ Disco Support

Good afternoon Year 6 parents!
I hope you all enjoyed your holiday break and that the kids had some time to rest and relax before the start of a busy term, the last as primary school kids!
Firstly, our class event that we are in charge of, the Disco on Friday, 18th October.  Most of the big stuff has been organised, DJ booked and as you would have seen posters are out and on the school email for the link to get tickets, so if you haven’t bought yours yet, it would be great if we can have an idea of numbers by the first week of term for planning purposes.
The P&F does put some funds toward the night and covers the big expenses and others are covered with the ticket sales, I have been collecting and starting some home DIY to make some decorations toward the night, as well as a slight addiction to Temu, which I have been happy to pay for as a donation, I was just going to ask from everyone in the class to possibly donate some lollies from each family so that we can make up a small lolly bag which each child will receive at the end of the night.  Also, if you have any jungle/ safari themed stuff at home you think would be good for decorating on the night let me know (eg: my family had to choose a monkey and snake soft toys as prizes at the Show 😂)
Other jobs we need to take care of before and on the actual day will be:
  • Set up of decorations and stage (from 3:00pm once the kids have left school)
  • Pack up at the end of the night
  • At the entry door to hand out glow sticks and snap band to each child
  • We will need several people to be supervisors throughout the hall and at the entry (I will ask the younger years to provide some parents that the smaller kids will be familiar with)
  • People to hand out drink and lolly bag at the end
  • We are aiming to have some big dispensers with lots of water but will need someone to be able to help with this, especially with the young ones
Please keep an eye out for continued correspondence regarding the disco and volunteering for some roles, please let me know ASAP what you are able to do and I can set up a bit of a roster.
Next, Graduation will be here before we know it and there are a few different things to consider, both the more ‘official’ school organised events and then something fun we can organise for the kids as a parent group.  This is marked for Friday, 6th December.  There will be the usual schedule of events in the morning with the mass and a morning tea to follow, each family is asked to bring something to share and we will order some nice graduation themed cupcakes/cookies for the kids.
This is then also an opportunity for the group to have some informal photos, in previous years there has been a nice background/ photo board and I will follow up if this is at the school.
**** For the mass, can I ask that each family send to me some photos of their child from early years to now (maybe 5 per child) and that way we can make a slide show to be presented during the reflection time.

For the rest of the day: 1. We have planned a booking at Bounce in Osborne Park for a session and then a cold drink and a snack afterward, to leave school around 12:00pm and finishd before the end of the normal school day.  This is not a school organised event and it will be up to the parent group to transport them there and back, and I will use some of the funds from the P&F allowance to reduce the price per child for the session and a slushie!
If everyone is able to let me know as soon as possible that their child will be coming I can work out the exact cost 🙂
And 2. Previous year groups have had a parent and child dinner (graduating child only), which I think would be a really nice way to finish their special day.  Rachel has made some enquiries and we are able to have a large booking at Tassells in Innaloo, and they are able to provide a set price per head around the $30-$35 mark.  We would try and have all families to RSVP and transfer the money before the night to secure the booking and make paying/ordering more seamless on the night.
To recap if each family could by the end of Week Two this term:
  • Let me know if they will be attending dinner
  • If your child will come to Bounce after the graduation ceremony (and if you can accommodate extras for transporting!)
  • Drop some lollies to the Year 6 classroom so that I can collect and use some funds toward more if we need
  • Which roles you can volunteer with at the disco
Thanks for sticking out with the longest email ever,

Jaye Kingwell
