On Wednesday, 23rd September, the Year 4 class will be going on an excursion to the Fremantle Shipwrecks Museum and Round House. The students will begin with the Willem de Vlamingh exhibition before enjoying a self-guided tour of the Fremantle Shipwrecks Museum. This will be followed by a tour of the Fremantle Round House and whale tunnel.
We will be picked up by bus at 9:00am from St Dominic’s School and return to school by 2:50pm.
Year Four students have been exploring the history of Aboriginal people before the arrival of the Europeans, European exploration and colonisation up to the early 1800’s. During the tour of the Round House, students can visualise the environment that Indigenous prisoners experienced. The Shipwrecks museum provides insight into the exploration that the Europeans underwent. This museum exhibits various wrecks that occurred along the Western Australia coast with an array of relics on display. Throughout this excursion, students will be able to develop their knowledge, skills, and values from the knowledge they gained in the classroom.
Children will be required to wear the school sports uniform, with their grey/ white polo shirts on this day, including a school hat. They should come to school with their normal school bags, water and lunch. Sunscreen is encouraged and will be provided on the day. Students will each need to bring a gold coin donation for entrance into the Round House.
Parent helpers are welcome and invited to come along to assist in the supervision of the children. All costs for students and parents will be covered prior to the excursion. However, there will be a gold coin entry for each person to enter the Round House. We have been asked to have 2-3 parent volunteers for our class for the tours. If you would like to join us for this excursion please complete the online parent helper form linked below.
