Over the past two weeks the Year 4 and 5 students have been adventuring and touring Perth. Last Monday, we travelled to Fremantle to tour the Fremantle Prison and the Round House. Students learnt about early settlers in the Swan Valley Colony and how notorious convict Moondyne Joe escaped the Fremantle Prison three times! Students explored the main prison, prison grounds and the solitary confinement buildings.
Last Friday, we ventured into the Perth CBD to visit the Perth Mint. Students learnt about the history of gold in Western Australia and saw replicas of some of the largest nuggets found here. The students loved the live gold pour and question time afterwards where they learnt, and were fascinated by, information about the mint being haunted and how there once had been a heist! We then ventured into Perth City for a walking tour with Rob our guide who lead us through and showed the students original buildings from the settlement, plaques that represent key moments in Perth history as well as the first post office.
Overall the Year 4 and 5 students have learnt so much about the history of Perth and Western Australia over the last few weeks!
