We are pleased to provide you with the following details regarding the upcoming Year 3 and 4 excursion to Kings Park on Tuesday, 4th June, 2024.
This excursion has been planned to supplement the following work being completed in your child’s classroom:
Year 4:
- Living things have life cycles (ACSSU072)
- Living things depend on each other and the environment to survive (ACSSU073)
Year 3:
- Living things can be grouped on the basis of observable features and can be distinguished from non-living things (ACSSU044)
The class will depart from St Dominic’s at 9:00am and return to St Dominic’s by 2:45pm.
Travel will be by bus.
Activities to be undertaken include:
- A 90-minute interactive, informative and engaging experience looking into plant structures, pollination and life-cycles. Students will:
- Dissect a seed and observe its parts (seed coat, embryo, and endosperm).
- Observe the process of germination and how the embryo develops into a seedling.
- Look at various West Australian plant’s life cycles.
- Explore the bushland to collect evidence of life cycles.
- Look at different types of seeds and their unique characteristics.
- Discuss the process of photosynthesis and how plants use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to produce glucose and oxygen.
- Design and carry out an experiment on the effect of fire on seed germination of a West Australian native.
- Free play at the Rio Tinto Naturescape
Special clothing or other requirements include:
- School sports uniform (grey polo top)
- School Hat
- School bag with recess and lunch inside.
Parent Help
- No parent help will be required on this occasion.
