World Children’s Day is celebrated annually on the 20th November each year. It marks the anniversary of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959, which sets out, for example, such things as the right to healthcare, education, clean water, protection from violence and the right to have their say in decisions that affect them.
We celebrate children everywhere, especially those here at St Dominic’s.
From the looming threat of climate change to isolation of the global COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 has been a difficult year for children and young people in Australia. This year has given us time to pause and think about the lives we would like to lead in the future, and to reimagine a better world for children everywhere.
This World Children’s Day, UNICEF Australia is inviting children to illustrate the change they’d like to see and draw, paint, sketch, colour or build their better world. Through art you can reimagine:
- a greener and more sustainable world.⠀
- the future of wellbeing and mental health. ⠀
- the future of education and work. ⠀
- a future without discrimination. ⠀
- children’s rights that are important to you.
Kids can submit their artwork for the world to see, and the chance for it to be displayed in a gallery. Submissions close 19th November. Click on the link below to enter the competition.
