Welcome back to a new school year! I hope you have thoroughly enjoyed the holidays and made the most of the break from school routines.
As we begin our 2020 school year, many in our school community may have connections to people who have been deeply affected by the bushfires across our country. The extent of the bushfire disaster and the impact of the experience on those in the areas that have been affected, is something hard to comprehend. Let us continue to keep those affected by this catastrophe in our thoughts and prayers.
Our school community is encouraged to consider the request by the Australian Catholic Bishops to support the ongoing work of the St Vincent de Paul Society throughout the bushfire affected communities. This can be undertaken by donating here.
Archbishop Mark Coleridge, on behalf of the Australian Bishops Conference, released a statement outlining the Catholic Church’s plans for responding to the bushfire crisis. The full statement from the ACBC can be read here.
Below is a link to a short 4 minute video that I shared last year from leading parenting author Maggie Dent, which you may find helpful when speaking with your children about these events.

It is shaping up to be another amazing year here at St Dominic’s School, with lots of exciting learning planned and fun community events on the horizon. Welcome to those families and staff who are new to St Dominic’s School this year, you are joining a wonderfully close nit community that is here to support you and your families.
As you begin to reconnect with school life, and so that you can start to see some of what is ahead in the first few weeks of the year, I encourage you to take the time to read through the information published on our school website. A PDF copy of the Term 1 Planner will be available shortly, however, the Online Calendar and 2020 Term Dates are now live on our school website.
I look forward to seeing our school gates open once again and the smiling faces of our students as they embark on another school year together. Don’t forget that Lady Latte will be onsite on Monday to provide you with all your first day back to school caffeine needs!
