‘The Loft House’ Play Space Has Been Unveiled

Back in late 2019 and early 2020, the staff at St Dominic’s discussed the idea of naming an area of our school after our dearly departed friend, teacher and colleague Mrs Lofthouse.

In addition to the special garden in front of the church created by our loving community and the memorial plaque placed at the front of this garden, the idea of naming our senior nature play space, ‘The Loft House’ (a creative play on words) was conceived.

Daniel Ledger, a past student of St Dominic’s and a student of Mrs Lofthouse’s, was commissioned to create a piece that would be hung in the senior nature play space for years to come.  Daniel set about his task, however, COVID-19 interrupted his opportunities to use Newman College’s wood working facilities throughout 2020, so there was a slight delay with the originally envisaged delivery and unveiling date.  Daniel was able to complete and deliver the piece just prior to the start of the 2021 school year and we unveiled it during a special blessing ceremony conducted by Fr Bernard at our Opening Mass on Ash Wednesday.

Recently, the piece was installed by Daniel, assisted by his father Kevin, and we can not thank him enough for the amazingly artistic and intricate work he has done bringing this idea to life for our whole school community.  Thank you, Daniel and the Ledger family.

We continue to pray each day for Liz and for her family.  We know that she will be forever looking over us and our students as they play in ‘The Loft House’  for many years to come.
