Saint Dominic Feast Day

Thursday, 3rd of August is the Feast Day of our patron saint, Saint Dominic.

Saint Dominic was born in Spain in approximately 1170 and was the youngest of four children. He became a priest, joined a religious community and was sent on missions abroad. It was on these journeys that he became committed to his mission of evangelical preaching.  Saint Dominic founded a Catholic order called  the Order of Preachers. He encouraged members of the order to study and pray, to prepare themselves to preach.

The Dominican community was different from others because they travelled and preached rather than staying in their monastery. They also tried to reach the well-educated, not just the poor and uneducated. The Dominicans lived a life of poverty and showed love to others as an expression of their love for God.
