On Wednesday, all Year 4 students took part in a Holy Communion Retreat run by Father Bernard at the Parish Hall.
The retreat, in preparation for their First Holy Communion in Week 8, was an opportunity for students to learn about the significance of preparing and eating a meal together, just as Jesus did at the Last Supper. Students were involved in the baking of bread, which was made with assistance by Mrs von Perger. Father Bernard also discussed the history of the Last Supper and it’s connection to the Liturgy of the Word and Eucharist.
We heard from Gwen, a parishioner at St Dominic’s, who spoke about her experiences as a child when she received Holy Communion. She showed students photos from her special day as well as her certificate.
After recess, the class celebrated mass together. The purpose of celebrating mass as a class was so that Father could explain the different parts of the mass to the students. We were so impressed with the questions that the students asked about the different words and actions performed by Father during the mass. It certainly showed that they were engaged in what Father was doing during the mass.
We would like to thank Father Bernard for organising such a fantastic retreat for us, and to Mrs Von Perger for helping us to make bread. We look forward to their First Holy Communion on Sunday, 13th September.
Please find below a folder with photos taken at the retreat.
