Harmony Week Dress Up and Activity Day – Thursday 20th March

Harmony Day is approaching and forms one part of Harmony week, which runs here in Western Australia from Tuesday 18th of March through until Friday, 21st March.  Harmony week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background. It is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism.

To mark Harmony Day at St Dominic’s School we would like all students to wear something orange or a traditional item of clothing that represents the country you are from. Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony week. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversation. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect.

Students are encouraged to wear something orange on THURSDAY 20th of March to show their support for cultural diversity. It can be an item of clothing like a t-shirt, socks, or something like a hair ribbon/scrunchie or a wrist band; something simple, there is no need to go out and buy an orange item.  Alternatively, if you have a costume that reflects your culture, i.e. a traditional dress or shirt and pants that would be suitable too.

Students will learn about the importance of Harmony day during their class time and each class will create a piece of work reflecting Harmony Day and we will present the students work in the front office display.
