At the end of term, the children in the choir walked to Birralee and Bethanie, two local aged care homes, to spread some Christmas spirit to the residents who reside there. Despite the warm conditions, the students were excited about the day. The children sang beautifully and gave cards, which they had made, to the men and women who attended the performances. Some people were moved to tears as they were so overwhelmed and appreciative of our visit. The students sang Happy Birthday to Ron, who was turning 104 in a few days! Thank you to Leon, who was our invaluable ‘roadie’ for the day, transporting instruments, music, lunches and icy poles, and to Miss Matrenza and Mr Bovell who came along to help on the day. When asked at the end if they enjoyed their time, a resounding, ‘the best!’ summarizes perfectly what we already know about the children at St Dominic’s. They are thoughtful, caring and are putting the gospel values into action through their compassionate service to others.
