St Dominic’s applied for and won a mini grant from the Jane Goodall foundation to help us to create a bird friendly garden.
The Year 1 and 2students learned about what plants and animals need to survive and complete their life cycles, did a survey of birds at St Dominic’s, investigated threats to local birds and animals, and researched endemic plant species that would support the local bird populations. Some suitable juvenile plants were then purchased using the grant from a nursery.
These were carefully planted by the Year 1 and 2 students last week, with a bit of help from the Year 6’s, and a bird bath was also installed.
We are looking forward to seeing these plants grow and hope it will encourage birds to visit and that this mini habitat will support them in the future.
