2022 Book Week Fun at St Dominic’s – Parade and Book Exchange

Book Week is coming up in Week 6 and several activities have been planned.  Book Week is an exciting event on the calendar each year.  It will be a great opportunity to celebrate books and have some fun!  There will be a parade, a book exchange, and many other engaging activities for the students to enjoy during the week in their classrooms.

Book Week Parade (Parents welcome)

On Monday, 22nd August at 9am, St Dominic’s School students will take part in a Book Week Parade in the hall.  The theme for Book Week across Australia this year is ‘Dreaming with eyes open’.  The theme is beautiful and acknowledges Australia’s First Nations People and their rich story-based culture.  It also fits nicely with the ALIA National Simultaneous Storytime book, Family Tree, as it has similar Australian flora and fauna images.

We ask that each child come to school dressed as a character from a book.  There will be a small prize for the most creative costume from each class.  This is not a compulsory activity so children choosing to not dress up should come dressed in their normal school uniform.

The Great Book Exchange

The annual ‘Great Book Exchange’ will be held on Thursday, 25th August. We would love each child to bring in a book that they no longer read and is in good, clean condition.  If your child would like to bring in more than one book, we will gladly take all donations for this wonderful event.  Please send in all books by Tuesday, 23rd August.

Don’t forget to send along a gold coin with your child on Thursday, 25th August, so that they can select a book to bring home. They may purchase more than one book, however, they need to bring in a gold coin for each selection.

All money raised will go towards the Metta Geha Orphanage-Mandalay projects in Myanmar, which we support as a school community.

Thank you for your continued support of this worthy cause.
