2020 Semester 1 Student Report Changes and Parent/ Teacher Meetings in Term 3

2020 Semester 1 Student Report Changes

Following recent School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCASA) and Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) directives, I am writing to advise families that the 2020 Semester 1 Report will look somewhat different to reports generated in previous years.  This is due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and the disruption to learning and teaching in Semester 1, 2020.

In Semester 1, students in Pre-Primary to Year 6 will be judged against a 3-point scale in all areas of the curriculum that were taught and reliably assessed by staff.  All curriculum areas will have an overall mark, however, English and Mathematics will be further broken down into sub strands ie. Reading, Writing etc.  The report is designed to provide families with an overview of their child’s general learning progress to date.  The scale will be as follows:

  • Above expected level
  • At expected level
  • Below expected level

The expected level is that which is outlined by SCASA in the year-level Western Australian achievement standards.

For children working on Individual Education Plans, the level will be that which is contained within their plan.

The report will also contain information regarding personal and social development, along with a general comment and attendance data.

As is required by SCASA in the Pre-Primary to Year 10: Teaching, Assessing and Reporting Policy, the Semester 2 reports will return to the normal five-point scale and structure previously used by the school.

Semester 1 Reports will be released to parents/ caregivers via SEQTA on Friday, 3rd July, at 4:00pm.

Term 3 Parent/ Teacher Meetings

As a result of school closures last term, we were unable to proceed with our planned parent/ teacher meetings scheduled for the last day of Term 1.  We highly value these opportunities to connect with parents, as they provide a wonderful opportunity to discuss each child’s achievements to date and collaboratively discuss goals for the future.  With this in mind we have rescheduled these meetings to Friday, 24th July (Week 1, Term 3).  This day will now be a pupil free day and staff will advise of meeting times closer to the date.  Families will be able to select a suitable meeting time via a new online platform.
