On Friday, 21 June, all our Year 5 and 6 students and some selected Year 4’s, travelled to Matthews Netball Centre and Henderson Park in Jolimont, to contest the annual winter Lightning Carnival.
Special thanks must go to Katie Anderson for giving up her Thursday mornings to help the Year 5 and 6 netball girls play together as a team, Leonie McGuren for kitting out all our students (and knowing which student had which uniform – if there is still one at your house, please return it before the end of term!) and of course Miss Davis, Mr Bovell and Mr Sullivan who were super coaches on the day.
The St Dominic’s Netball team were much more competitive this year than last (all that extra training paid off!), finishing 6th in their division but with much closer score lines – well played girls!
Over at the Soccer, the Year 5 and 6 team, coached by Mr Sullivan, despite a difficult first round match against a very strong (and very tall!) St Thomas team, played brilliantly in their remaining matches to finish second in A division.
The team in B division – made up of Year 5’s and some Year 4’s and coached by Mr Bovell – were, in a word, dominant! St Dominic’s won the B division shield for the second year in a row (which is lucky…. Because said shield is currently AWOL…. If anyone spots it in a strange place around the school, please let us know!), without dropping a match.
Thanks to the many parents and spectators who made it over to Jolimont to support the teams and well done to all our St Dominic’s students for being such great ambassadors for our school.
