After Book Week was postponed earlier in the year due to COVID-19, we are pleased to announce that it has been rescheduled nationally for Week 2 next term. The several activities that were planned for earlier in the year will now take place during this week. There will be a parade, a book exchange and many fun activities for the students to enjoy throughout the week in their classrooms.
Book Week Parade
On Monday, 19th October at 9am, St Dominic’s School students will take part in a Book Week Parade. The theme for Book Week across Australia this year is ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’. As we will still be in Phase 4 of the WA Road Map to Recovery, this will be a student only event. The parade will be videoed and shared with the community as soon as possible.
We ask that each child come to school dressed as a character from a book or dressed up inline with the 2020 Book Week theme. There will be a small prize for the most creative costume from each class. This is not a compulsory activity so children choosing to not dress up should come dressed in their normal school uniform.
The Great Book Exchange
On Tuesday, 20th October, there will be a book exchange to raise funds for the children of the Metta Geha Orphanage in Myanmar.
Could your child/ children please bring in one or two books from home. The books should be second hand, but in good condition. They should be books which the children have loved reading and would like to pass on for another child to enjoy. Please send the books in as soon as possible, and place them in the boxes provided in your child’s classroom. This year, with COVID-19 in mind, we would like to ask that all books be given a clean prior to dropping them off at school. Staff will conduct another clean of the books before to the book exchange takes place.
Prior to the book exchange, teachers will collect a gold coin donation from each child. This donation will allow your child to choose a book from the book exchange to take home. The Great Book Exchange will take place on Tuesday, 20th October. If there are any leftover books at the end of the day, there may be the opportunity to purchase another book later in the week with an additional gold coin donation.
Thank you so much for your support of both of these events.
